Talaroo Hot Springs Tourism Planning and Business Case
Ewamian Limited and Plan C

Land of the Traditional Owners: Land of the Ewamian People

Talaroo Hot Springs Tourism Planning and Business Case is an exceptional example supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island people achieve their aspirations through planning. This project provides a leading example of how the planning profession can work with and for the indigenous community to support, facilitate and realise their vision and aspirations for country.

The Talaroo Hot Springs project enables Ewamian people to showcase Ewamian hospitality and share a deeper reconciliation between people, culture and place. Talaroo is also a special place of global significance and is amongst only a handful of geothermal systems on the planet where life in extreme environments can be studied.

The judges were impressed with the highly collaborative, Traditional Owner led strategic planning process that facilitated Ewamian people to identify their aspirations and, delivered an on-Country tourism experience. The success of this planning process, which spanned over a 5-year period, is evident in the achievements of Ewamian Limited in realising this self-determined aspiration to establish an Indigenous, on-Country tourism experience.

Talaroo Hot Springs opened to tourists in August 2021 and has just celebrated its first year of operations and it has garnered a 4.5 star rating on TripAdvisor and WikiCamps.
